This fall, make these little felt hedgehogs to complement any of your decorations. They are a great addition to a fall wreath, a garland, and many other things!
My adorable hedgehogs are made out of bamboo felt, an earth-friendly, soft and strong felt. They are about 2×2 inches big.

To make felt hedgehogs:
1. Gather your materials. You need two shades of brown felt, one dark, one light, embroidery floss matching the felt, fiberfill, an embroidery needle, and scissors (for the felt and for paper).
Cut the paper pattern pieces, following the black solid lines. The red guides are for embroidery; the blue guides are for placement of other pieces.
3. Cut felt according to pattern.
4. Let’s start with Hedgehog 1, pattern pieces (A) to (D). Grab the face of the hedgehog (B) and add two French knots as indicated by the red guides, using two strands of dark brown thread. With the same thread, whipstitch the nose (D) on (B).
With two strands of light brown thread, whipstitch the face (B) with the right side facing out on (C), where indicated by the blue guide on the pattern. With the same thread, add lines with straight stitches as indicated in red on the pattern.
Finally, sew (C) and (A) together. Place the shapes together, with the right sides facing out, and begin blanket stitches using two strands of dark brown thread. Stuff with fiberfill as you go. You may leave your needle hanging from the thread as you stuff the shape. Use a thin and pointy tool (but not sharp) to help you stuff it. Continue your blanket stitches until you reach your first stitch. Secure with a knot. Insert the needle back into the shape and come out about an inch away through the back. Cut your thread then. This last step will help hiding the thread.
5. Now let’s keep the fun going with Hedgehog 2, pattern pieces (E) to (H). Grab the face (F) and add a French knot for the eye, and backstitch the mouth, using two strands of dark brown thread. With the same thread, whipstitch the nose (G) on (F).
Whipstitch (F) where it fits perfectly on the left side of (H), using two strands of light brown thread and stuffing with fiberfill as you go.
On shape (E), add straight stitches as indicated by the red guides, using two strands of light brown thread. Once finished, place (E) where it fits perfectly on the right side of (H) and whipstitch (E) on (H) using two strands of dark brown thread and stuffing with fiberfill as you go.
Now you have two adorable hedgehogs to add to your fall decor! Repeat the steps to create as many hedgehogs as you’d like!
